Committed to Community Development
   Home      What is ISHO

Imo Self Help Organization (ISHO) an NGO, came into being as the outcome of an academic exercise during one of the workshops attended by the then coordinator at the University of Ibadan in 1987

The exercise was in Poverty alleviation and sustainability of the rural areas in the scheme of things and making way for their individual/collective efforts at reducing the dependence on government assistance.

The Population of the rural communities form the nucleus/center of the economic growth of any nation, because most of the minerals/economic activities come from the rural areas. Yet these communities are often ignored or neglected in the various fields of human endeavours e.g. Education, Agriculture/Agro products and Preservation. Furthermore access to credit and technology are limited.

ISHO was therefore formed as a result of these problems to bridge the gap, seek ways to reawaken the consciousness of the community involved. To revive indigenous grassroot organizations/cooperatives through mutual sharing of resources, experiences an knowledge, including administration and Micro-credit and active participation in these communities with the aim of improving their lives and alleviate poverty.

ISHO offers financial and technical expertise and resources responsive to the agricultural and livelihood needs of the farmers and their families. For long ISHO has been in the forefront of development work in the rural areas. With its range of programs directed towards serving the socio-economic, health and spiritual needs of the rural poor. This organization has lifted their living standards.

In 1990 Imo Self Help Organization (ISHO) was registered under Imo State Ministry Trade & Industry (Co-operative Division). Later as the scope continued to widen further and also in order to match the legal taste of international Agencies, in 1995 ISHO was fully registered with the corporate Affairs Commission, Abuja, Nigeria.
